Liverpool and Chelsea reconvene UEFA Champions League exertions holding slender advantages over Real Madrid and Juventus respectively as they bid to claim a place in the competition's last eight.

Madrid travel to Liverpool having never previously played a competitive game at Anfield and trailing 1-0 from the first leg in the Bernabeu, while Chelsea arrive in Turin with the same advantage courtesy of an assured display at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago.

Yossi Benayoun, who will likely miss Tuesday's game through injury, scored the decisive goal in the Spanish capital but Reds skipper Steven Gerrard insists Liverpool will not be resting on their laurels on Merseyside.

Madrid's recent form under Juande Ramos has been almost immaculate, although a 1-1 draw at the weekend against neighbours Atletico enabled Barcelona to open up a six-point lead at the Primera Division summit.

Fernando Torres has taken part in light training over the past few days but Rafa Benitez is remaining poker faced as to whether the Spaniard will be fit to face his compatriots.

Guus Hiddink's Midas touch seems to be having the desired effect at Chelsea, as the Dutchman's calm but authoritative manner has stabled a ship that was, if not sinking, certainly losing water under Luiz Felipe Scolari.

A 1-0 win over Juventus in the first leg was secured by Didier Drogba, who perhaps more than any other Chelsea player is thriving under Hiddink's tenure. A tenure which has yielded five wins from as many games.

Gone is the belligerent sulk that sat glum faced on Chelsea's bench under Scolari, to be replaced by the rampaging bull that was often unplayable in the days of Jose Mourinho.

Prior to the 'Special One' Chelsea were all about the 'Tinkerman' and it is Claudio Ranieri who is charged with plotting his old side's downfall in Turin.

Juventus' record in overcoming first leg deficits is impressive and Ranieri has been in combative mood this week in dismissing the idea Italian football lags behind its English equivalent. On Tuesday his theory will be put to the test.

Over in Germany it is a case of job done for Bayern Munich as they host Sporting Lisbon having thumped their Portuguese counterparts 5-0 in the first leg.

Sporting coach Paulo Bento is clearly not a believer in miracles having arrived at the more sombre conclusion: "The outcome of this round is already certain."

The final tie of the round pairs together two of the competition's less fancied sides as Panathinaikos host Villarreal with the advantage; holding as they do an away goal secured in a 1-1 draw at El Madrigal.

The 19-times Greek champions, managed by former Chelsea coach Henk Ten Cate, go into the game with confidence following a 3-0 domestic win over Larissa at the weekend.

Villarreal, though, are an accomplished side in their own right and having cemented fourth spot in La Liga at the weekend with a defeat of Espanyol, Manuel Pellegrini's Yellow Submarines will be quietly confidently of silencing what is always a boisterous Pana faithful.
