Ryan Giggs insists the 2009 PFA Players' Player of the Year is not guaranteed to come from Old Trafford.

The Manchester United stalwart is expected to be among the contenders for this season's crown after another standout campaign for the Red Devils.

The Welsh winger continues to belie his age, with his standards as high as they were when he broke into the United team as a precocious teenager.

At 35-years-old he will be hoping to be voted the best player in the country by his fellow professionals for the first time in his distinguished career.

However, he will face strong competition for the crown from team-mates and local rivals.

Terrific

Cristiano Ronaldo, who has taken the PFA title for the last two years, will once again be among the front-runners, as will United's defensive rock Nemanja Vidic.

With the Red Devils on course to claim an unprecedented quintuple this season, it is hard to imagine the prize heading to anyone outside of Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

However, with Liverpool having impressed at home and abroad this term, Giggs expects a number of contenders to emerge from the Anfield dressing room.

"(Steven) Gerrard and (Xabi) Alonso have been terrific this season," Giggs told United Review.

"Frank Lampard (at Chelsea) has had another good season as well so there are a lot of players who have done really well."
