Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has pointed to his side's exceptional first-half display as the key to securing an unlikely 2-0 win over Manchester United.

The Cottagers came out with an impressive drive and determination to effectively overwhelm their opponents in the opening period.

The win will undoubtedly be remembered for some time to come by the home fans, but it is the ever-growing strength of the Fulham side that most interests Hodgson right now.

"It's not often that you can beat Manchester United here at Craven Cottage, and in particular it's not often that I've seen the team play as well as we did in the first half," Hodgson told Sky Sports.

"Obviously it's much easier to play against a 10-man United than an 11-man United, but our first-half performance was very good throughout.

"I thought our passing was good, the movement was good and we did create a lot of goal chances."

Lofty ambitions

Victory pushes Fulham on to 40 points for the season, but rather than settle for survival, the Cottagers boss is keen to keep aiming higher and higher up the table.

"Hopefully now we can start trying to cement our position in the top half of the table an try and get ourselves up to maybe as many as 50 points," he added.

"We've got eight games left to play and we're playing well, so we'll raise our sights and try and make certain that we finish the season as well as we've been doing."
